Le Critérium cycliste international de Quillan, expliqué
On the weekend closest to 15th August each year, the town of Quillan plays host to international cyclists in its Criterium. This hugely popular annual event is organised by ASQ – l’Association Sportif Quillanaise and is the oldest event of its type in France. ‘Le Criterium’ draws crowds of onlookers to watch its riders cover a course of 75 laps (tournées) over a 1.125km route through the roads of Quillan itself and across Le Pont Vieux, giving a total overall course length of 84km 375m
Participation of the event is by invitation only, and includes professional and amateur cyclists: Elite 1 cyclists ride alongside categories GS1, GS2, Elite 2 and Nat
The event has taken place since 1938, interrupted only during the Second World War 1940-1945
This year’s Critérium cycliste international de Quillan will take place at 14.00 on Sunday 13th August 2017
If you have a keen interest in cycling or just fancy a day out for the family, you’ll be sure to find plenty of action here
